The stay at the Fir Tree Country Hotel impressed me with the cleanliness. Fresh linens, a choice of hard and soft pillows, and plenty of hot water made for restful nights. The breakfast offered a great selection and was freshly cooked each morning. The bar and restaurant served excellent meals, especially recommending the cod dishes and a delightful pie. Friendly staff added a warm touch, making me feel at home. on one occasion, the service during the busy Sunday carvery felt rushed. I had to wait in line longer than expected, which took away from the relaxed vibe. I also faced some confusion when trying to get a bowl for my child's meal, as I was unaware of the need to order a ‘baby bowl’ at the bar. Lastly, some parking anxiety arose since spots weren't guaranteed. Despite these hiccups, a great base for exploring the stunning Durham area awaits.

Fine local scenery, historical charm with modern updates, pet-friendly policy
Location can be hard to find!!! Limited Wi-Fi connectivity caused frustration!!! Insufficient communication regarding dining options left guests confused!!! Maintenance issues like untidy outdoor spaces could be improved!!!

The warm welcome set a positive tone, and the room was well-equipped with a stocked hospitality tray and comfortable bedding that made for restful nights. Dining options were impressive, the lamb was cooked perfectly, and the generous portions at the restaurant stood out. a slight disappointment arose with the confusion around food service times, as we encountered an oven issue during lunch that impacted our plans, and parking spaces were somewhat limited.

Great stopover!
Stumbled upon this place while headin’ back to Scotland, and it was a nice surprise! The leek and potato soup was to die for, and my panini hit the spot. We had a little wait for service, but no biggie. Just wish the place was easier to find. Definitely a neat spot for lunch if you're in the area!
